Rationale
At St Paschal Baylon Catholic Primary School we want our children to aim high and see how Geography can provide them with the knowledge, skills and understanding they need for the future. We want to develop future explorers, cartographers and town planners!
Our Geography curriculum has been carefully planned so that children are learning about the world around them from the moment they join our school and so that they are building on and developing this knowledge as they progress through St Paschal Baylon. We want children to love their learning in Geography and have planned a curriculum that will help them to grow in initiative and become global citizens. Through our progressive Geography curriculum, children will link their learning to their rights and the rights of children around the world, helping them to become the active, responsible, articulate and confident citizens of the future that our Rights Respecting Schools Gold Award shows that we champion. Linking Geography lessons to the Sustainable Development Goals will also allow our children to develop a sense of community, learning about fairness, inclusion, diversity and showing care for the environment around them.
Children will experience Geography through enthusiastic and quality teaching, fieldwork and visits, the use of resources such as interactive mapping tools and, of course, exploring and learning from what our amazing city has to offer. Their natural curiosity about the world around them will develop questioning and problem solving.
