Music

Rationale

St Paschal Baylon Catholic Primary School encourages all children to develop awareness, enjoyment and appreciation of Music in many forms. Listening to a wide range of music and having opportunities to perform and compose, enables children to develop imagination and creativity. We believe that music is a language that everyone can speak and is an effective tool for language development, right from the moment children start St Paschal Baylon. Through lessons, year group assemblies, after school Choir sessions, whole school gatherings and opportunities to share our talents, we ensure that performing is integral to our school ethos. We aim to inspire a future generation of music producers, songwriters, composers and performers! The curriculum has been designed to ensure that the children will be able to build upon prior knowledge and constantly revisit concepts, in order to deepen their understanding. Music is filtered through the whole curriculum and is used as a tool to help embed a range of concepts; particularly through the use of singing. At St Paschal Baylon, we fully value the importance of music and recognise that its many benefits include: enhancing self-esteem, relieving stress and creating a real sense of community in our school!
