Rationale
In an ever-changing technological world, Computing is an integral part of the national curriculum and is a key skill for everyday life. More and more, children are accessing technology at an earlier age, often coming into school with the ability to swipe and open apps on tablets and other electronic devices. It is our job at St. Paschal Baylon to teach children to develop a strong awareness of how to use technology both responsibly and respectfully, thinking about their own and other children’s rights. Here at St Paschal Baylon Catholic Primary School, we aim to deliver inspiring Computing lessons, which develop a sense of curiosity, resilience and confidence within our pupils when using different technology on their primary computing journey. Our progressive Computing curriculum, beginning in EYFS, has been carefully planned so that each child can become confident and resilient users of the internet and social media. The curriculum enables children to gain an understanding of a number of important information, communication and technology topics. Project Evolve lessons at the beginning of each half-term, allow the children to reflect on how technology in their lives can impact their mental health and well-being, and how they should behave and respond to others online. Children will experience Computing through enthusiastic and quality teaching. They will build upon prior knowledge each year to continually develop their understanding of Computer Systems and Network, Creating Digital Media and Computer Programming (delivered by MGL).
