Children’s Mental Health Week

Children’s Mental Health Week 3rd – 9th February 2025

This year’s theme is “Know Yourself, Grow Yourself!”

We have learnt that when we take notice of ourselves and how we feel, we are able to make better choices and be more connected with our feelings and behaviours. Noticing these things can help us recognise when we need support. We have also talked about how we all go through a range of emotions even throughout one day and that this is perfectly normal! It’s all about building resilience by recognising our emotions, knowing ourselves well and knowing what things we can do to help ourselves feel emotionally healthy.

The children have really enjoyed taking part in interactive live sessions with Liverpool Schools Partnership, Place 2 Be, Liverpool Mental Health Support Teams, the LFC Foundation and Edge Hill University with primary schools across Liverpool to find out more through the characters from the movie Inside Out! There have also been lots of fun activities to follow up from these sessions in class!

Remember there is lots of information about supporting children’s mental health on the mental health and well-being page of our school website including links to some fantastic support agencies so check it out!

Children’s Mental Health Week 5th-11th February 2024

The theme this year is ‘My Voice Matters’.

My Voice Matters is about empowering children and young people by providing them with the tools they need to express themselves.

When we feel empowered, this can have a positive impact on our wellbeing.

Children took part in activities to help them explore the theme and the importance of how feeling heard and empowered can have a positive impact on our mental health and wellbeing and help us feel a greater sense of community and self-esteem.

Children’s Mental Health Week 6th – 12 February 2023

Children’s Mental Health Week’s theme this year is ‘Let’s Connect’.
When we have healthy connections – to family, friends and others – this can support our mental health and our sense of wellbeing.
For Children’s Mental Health Week 2023, Place 2 Be are encouraging people to connect with others in healthy, rewarding, and meaningful ways.

Children have taken part in lots of activities in class using resources provided by the Children’s Mental Health and Well-Being charity Place 2 Be. These have included  looking at who our important people are in our lives who can help us to feel connected and how we can connect through dance and song.  We also looked at some texts to inspire us including ‘The Invisible String’ in Early Years and Key Stage 1 and the poem ‘Together’ by Matt Goodfellow in Key Stage 2. These books helped us to think and talk about the importance of making connections with other people in order to help us feel happy and safe.
We also took part in some live sessions from the LFC Foundation and also from Yoga Bus to help us learn about our emotions, the importance of resilience and ways to help us look after our own well-being.

Children’s Mental Health Week 7th -13th February 2022

We have been celebrating Children’s Mental Health Week. The theme is Growing Together. We have looked at all of the ways we have grown and at what helps us to grow. We found out that we don’t just grow physically but that we also grow emotionally. We never stop growing emotionally even when we are well into adult-hood!

We found out that growing emotionally is a really positive thing but that sometimes, in order to grow, we need to try new things or go through difficult times and challenges. What’s really important is that we know what supports us and helps us to get through these times and keep on growing! Sometimes it is people that support us like our family, teachers and friends. Sometimes it is activities such as listening to music, playing sport, being creative or spending time with our pets that supports us. The most important thing is that we all respect and care for each other and look out for people who may need a bit of kindness to help them keep growing!

We really enjoyed the live online sessions this week from the Merseyside Youth Association’s RAISE team and the virtual assembly from Place 2 Be with Oti Mabusse. They really helped us to think about our mental health and realise that everyone – even famous people – sometimes feels low in confidence or worried and need a bit of help. Each year group has carried out activities this week ranging from reading stories that talk about growing and resilience, to creating our own support balloons which show us who our important people are that help us to grow. The children have really engaged with the activities and gained a lot from learning about how we all need time, space and support to grow!
