Physical Education

Rationale

At St. Paschal Baylon Catholic Primary School, Physical Education is not a stand-alone subject in our curriculum it is embedded throughout all aspects of school life. We recognise that PE, sport and physical activity can dramatically boost children’s emotional wellbeing, personal development and their ability to achieve. We want our pupils of to develop a life-long love of sport and inspire them to become professional athletes, PE teachers, physiotherapists and personal trainers.

The majority of our PE lessons are taught by Mrs Owens (a PE specialist teacher) who is part of LLS and the remaining lessons are taught by sports coaches from both LLS and LSSP.

PE has traditionally been split it into 8 different categories, Athletics, Dance, (fundamental) Games, Gymnastics, Invasion Games, Outdoor and Adventurous Activities, Net and Wall Games, Striking and Fielding Games. By colour co-ordinating our curriculum map it is clear to see threads running through it and ensures that there is a systematic, progressive curriculum for external organisations to follow.
